Disability, Survivor, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicare.
In addition to the above, Social Security will accept Black Lung Claims
for the Department of Labor as well as process post-entitlement actions for
them. Social Security Numbers are
obtained through SSA, both the original number as well as replacement cards.
For disability benefits, an individual must have a condition that
prevents him/her from performing Substantial Gainful Activity and that
condition must be expected to last at least twelve (12) months.
SSI applicants must be either at least sixty-five (65) years of age or
disabled. Retirement age is
sixty-two (62) for early retirement.
Age sixty-five (65) is the earliest age for full retirement benefits however
people born after 1938 will have their full retirement age gradually increased.
Benefits are also provided to the families of workers who die.
